In conjunction with the launch of the new global development paradigm, namely 2016-2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), GESTEC is to provide developing countries with both strategic and practical solutions in the arena of energy, climate change, environmental issues through developing/implementing appropriate and adaptable integrated technologies. To this end, our main thrusts (activities) consist of conducting research (on solution-oriented strategic policies and integrated technologies), promoting development cooperation projects, and fostering future global leaders with a view to accomplishing the SDGs globally, and generate a creative industrial ecosystem in the domestic domain.
Research on strategies and technologies: Global demand for identifying optimal strategy/policy and providing appropriate technologies to tackle the energy and environmental agenda is expected to increase sharply under the SDGs (and the new climate-change system), in particular towards the developing countries. In this light, our research will be evolving around from exploring strategic policies and appropriate integrated technologies for some selected countries - based on the global mega trends, and local pending issues and needs assessment. Accordingly, we explore and identify appropriate and adaptable technologies toward energy and climate-change solutions (including renewable energy, energy efficiency, mix, storage system, and smart grid), which could be integrated with ICT technologies (such as big-data and IoT).
Promoting international cooperation: Another main thrust is the promotion and implementation of field projects (in international development cooperation) conforming with the new climate-change system and environmental requirements under the SDGs. Equipped with an innovative strategy-cum-technologies, which are based on Korea’s competitive advantage, we are to participate in public projects such as the Official Development Assistance (ODA) and Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP) as well as pre-feasibility study and technical assistance programs. Having top-level experts in the University, we are also exploring to deliver capacity building projects, which would invite government officials and experts to strengthen software capacity of partner countries through training.
Fostering experienced global talents: : In line with the leadership and efforts of the Univ. and YICT, we put a high value on fostering future global leaders through developing short, yet impactful world-class cooperative education programs (including student exchange program) in collaboration with selected partner countries and relevant institutions in the areas of energy, environment, and climate change.
