Computation & Communications Lab has conducted studies on various future-oriented ICT technologies such as (1) cognitive multimedia processing for providing user-centric contents, (2) 5th-generation high-speed communication network, (3) nano network for in-body wireless communication, (4) reliable, robust, safe and intelligent computer and memory architecture, (5) next-generation imaging system for high quality 3D image, and (6) cloud computing, a new emerging computing environment, and big data analysis.
In these days, the amount of multimedia data (including images, videos, music, speech, etc.) has been exploding around us. Since multimedia data are ultimately consumed by human users, how to process and manage such data in the viewpoint of humans is an important research issue. Toward human-centered multimedia services, we are working on developing multimedia processing technologies based on human perceptual mechanisms.

Our ultimate research goal is to investigate and explore reliable, robust, safe and intelligent computer and memory architecture - including emerging Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) technology finding novel technologies to offer all these properties for next-generation many-core, graphic processing unit, persistent memory sytems, embedded system, high performance computing and solid state disks (SSDs).
The current challenges in computer science is to handle complex data structures, diverse contents types and devices without sacrificing high-performance. To address these challenges, we are working on distributed calculation frameworks, multimedia service, and data science.
Multimedia contents are associated a variety of electronic devices and services; including smart phone, tablet, TV, computer, film, broadcasting service, SNS, game services, advertisement and many others. More recently, three dimensional data (3D) contents receive the most significant attention due to their impact and related business in 3D imaging, display and printing industry.
